CBSE Athletic Meet Gold Winner from Dubai

Dubai Ehsan Hassan Ebrahim's perseverance and patience paid rich dividends when he won the long jump gold in the CBSE National Athletic Meet, at SMS Stadium in Jaipur, India, recently.

After a wait of three long years, the pupil from the Indian High School, Dubai, was eager to grab a gold in this edition of the meet. The event is held as part of the CBSE Competitive Sports Programme in which boys and girls from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools in India and the Gulf took part.

He began slowly by taking third place in the first round, then second in the next and finally took the lead during the fourth round, from which he went from strength to strength to win with a leap of 6.35 metres. For the record, all his jumps were perfect at 6.05, 6.15, 5.97, 6.35, 6.19, 6.20 metres.

"He is a very sincere and a hard-working boy," said a proud Dr Tapan Das, Ebrahim's coach. "He also gained valuable assistance from the Indian High School, which always supports and nurtures pupils talented in sports."

Ebrahim was not done yet. After barely making it to the 100 metre finals with a poor time of 11.95 seconds, the 15-year-old showed a big heart by finishing a close second. Starting from lane eight, Ebrahim sprinted across the track to take silver with a time of 11.34 seconds, 0.3 seconds behind the winner.

He won the 100-, 200-metre sprints and the long jump golds in the CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet at the Dubai Police Officers' Club Stadium in Dubai on November 30 and December 1.The Indian High School lays as much importance to sports as academics and imparts training to aspiring players of tennis, basketball, volleyball, chess, badminton, table tennis, swimming, cricket and athletics. The talented pupils t were given intensive training by a team of specialised coaches to further their career in sports.
