Students appearing in the class 10th board examination this year have another reason to smile. After the grading system were introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE) last year, the board has decided to introduce Multiple Choice Question (MCQ).

CBSE has decided that the term end exam of class 10th board of every subject, would have around 23 percent MCQs. Be it English, Hindi, English Grammar, Maths and Social Science, all will have around 16 questions having multiple choices carrying one marks each.

Such MCQs, subject wise, would be 16 in Social Science, Science and Hindi whereas around 25 percent of the questions in English would be MCQ. Apart from these MCQs, the question paper would have numerous very short answer type questions and short answer type questions carrying one to three marks.

Moreover, there would be flexibility of time given to students for completing their exam, as one can complete the exam in three hours or ask for additional half an hour. Every student would be given a total time of three and half hours and he or she would be free to either submit the paper in three hours or they can utilise the additional half hour, said principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya Manauri, Dr Shalini Dikshit.

In addition to all these stress easing decision, the board has asked schools to guide the students for the stream they wish to pursue after clearing class 10th, said Dikshit.

Although we are yet to get a final policy decided from the headquarters, regarding whether to provide the MCQs in a separate sheet or with the main question paper, but the steps would certainly ease out the stress from the minds of class 10th students, said CBSE Regional Officer (RO), Allahabad, Rajbir Singh. The board has also provided numbers of sample papers on its websites, which can easily be downloaded by the students, he added.
