CBSE International (CBSEI) To Start From Today

CBSE International

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the country’s largest school board, is all set to go global from April with the launching of Central Board of Secondary Education International (CBSEI).

Initially to be launched in 25 schools in Oman, Qatar, Dubai, Muscat and Singapore the new board with a syllabus at par with that of the International Baccalaureate (IB) would reach out to more than one lakh students abroad.

These schools already have affiliations with the CBSE. They would launch the new curriculum in Class I and Class IX as a pilot project and then over the next three years would cover till class XII.

However, these schools would have CBSEI along with the regular CBSE course so that students might opt for either of the two according to their preferences.

“It will not only be popular with the NRIs, but also will be opted by those foreign students, who want to come to India for higher education,” CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said.

“The board will be appreciated by those who would like to go for an international curriculum and at the same time cannot pay a high fee as required in international boards like IB,” he said.

The affiliation fee for each school with the CBSEI would be Rs 2.5 lakhs compared to Rs 6 lakhs with the IB. The affiliation fee for the CBSE schools abroad is Rs 1.25 lakhs.

Though based on the National Curriculum Framework (2005) the new syllabus would be of international standards and would give a global perspective to the subjects of study.

This curriculum would follow the procedure of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and would have no board exam. There would be lot of flexibility with regard to the courses of studies.

Does it mean that any school willing to pay Rs 2.5 Lakhs can get CBSE international affiliate status ?

    • iCBSE

      Yes,
But the school should satisfy the needs of CBSEI.

  • Babu

I presume CBSEI is mainly for foreign students who would like to settle in India, in future. For NRIs CBSE would be adequate.
The question is will NRI students who opt for CBSEI, have any benefit, if they wish to continue their eductation/higher studies in foreign countries (UK/ USA)? Do they still need to give admission tests like SAT/ GRE/ GMAT/ TOEFL etc.?

    • iCBSE

As of now, there is no plan to get CBSE-affiliated schools in India to get affiliated to CBSEI.
This year CBSEI’s new curriculum will be introduced only in class I and IX to be followed by introduction in classes II, VI, VII and X in 2011 and remaining classes in 2012.

This CBSEI is only offered outside India. Within India normal CBSE is offered.

As such if a child joins CBSEI and the child has to go back to India there will be problems.

Correct me if I am wrong.
