CBSE Date Sheet for Class X

School under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been given the freedom to come up with their own datesheets for Class X summative assessment (SA-II), to be held in the second half of March.

The new move is part of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), which has been extended to Class X as well. This will be the first batch of Class X students to not write the Board exams. Earlier, the CBSE used to provide a uniform datesheet to all schools for Class X Boards.

The schools have been given a timeframe within which they have to conduct the SA2.

The CCE scheme was implemented for Class IX students in 2009 and extended to Class X this year. Under the scheme, students are given grades instead of marks for four formative assessments (FA-I, FA-II, FA-III and FA-IV) and two summative assessments (SA-I and SA-II) held in an academic year.

Both scholastic and non-scholastic aspects are taken into consideration for evaluating a student.

“Since Class X students are assessed by the school now, we thought schools should be given freedom to decide their own date sheet according to their own convenience,” said an official of the CBSE.

Usha Ram, principal of Laxman Public School-Hauz Khas, said: “Since Class X Boards have been scrapped and students are being evaluated through CCE, giving schools the freedom to frame their own datesheet is a good thing.”

Students of schools that are only up till Class X, however, will have to write the Board exam this year, as per the datesheet set by the CBSE. The is to facilitate their shift to a different school for Class XI. The exams start on March 3 with a language paper.

The summative assessment of Class IX, meanwhile, will be held by schools in the first half of March.
