Common Syllabus

The students studying science and mathematics in CBSE and ICSE schools will now take exams under a common syllabus in the year 2013. The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the officials of different education boards in New Delhi recently.

Both the ICSE and CBSE officials agreed in principle to introduce the common syllabus, which will start from 2013. For class IX, subjects like Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will be included in the common syllabus.

The NCERT and Council of Boards of School Education have prepared the syllabus of science and mathematics and have already sent it to the boards.

The secondary education of Rajasthan has also received the syllabus and is waiting for the state government’s nod.

Meanwhile, preparations are on to conduct common entrance exams for engineering and medical colleges in the country.

The Union HRD Ministry has already given the green signal and next year Common Medical Entrance exam will take place. The education boards of Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Haryana, Assam, Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Bihar and Goa have already given their consent to the common syllabus.

However, Rajasthan is yet to give its nod, while Andhra Pradesh has agreed to implement it in 2012.
