Unhappy with the lower fees fixed by the state government, several private matriculation schools in Tamil Nadu have approached the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for affiliation with the Board.
Highly-placed sources in CBSE said that several private matriculation schools in the state had approached the Board’s southern region office in Chennai for affiliating their school with the Board.
“Even though we do not have the exact number of schools who approached us I can certainly say the numbers have increased this year than last year. But most of the schools do not have No Objection Certificates (NOC) required to migrate from the State Board to CBSE. I was told that only five or six schools have been able to get it this year,” the source said.
Mr Vasan, a parent, said that a couple of months back, the school had informed parents about their decision to migrate to the CBSE stream. “We were asked to send a letter with our opinion whether we wanted our kids to continue studying in matriculation or migrate to CBSE,” he said.
The principal of one of the private schools in the city, which had applied for CBSE Affiliation, said that even after appealing to Justice K. Govindarajan they had got no respite. “We will not be able to run the school with the fees the committee has recommended, so we wanted to join CBSE which gives us full administrative freedom,” the principal said.
