IGNOU Course in Disability

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is planning to launch a short-term course to train teachers across the country in disability issues, an official said Thursday.

"The cell would provide advanced training to teachers, who are already teaching disabled students. The three-month course will be offered under distance learning mode and will provide hands-on practical training and exposure, apart from theoretical input," the official said.

The new programme named 'Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities' has been launched under the aegis of the National Centre for Disability Studies, IGNOU.

"Our 100 special study centres present in each state will also be used for this purpose. At present, the programme will be conducted in English and Hindi and by June 2011, it will be offered in nine regional languages," added the official.
