Welfare, Preventive Policing and Helping the Helpless

Indira Gandhi National Open University is currently celebrating its Silver Jubilee, with a year long series of academic activities. The inauguration of the Silver Jubliee Year was done by the Honorable President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, who is also Visitor of IGNOU on 19 November 2009.

One of the major activities proposed as part of the Silver Jubilee Year is the organisation of IGNOU Silver Jubilee Lectures, as a monthly event commencing from December 2009. Renowned experts and practitioners from different areas and academic disciplines will be invited to deliver talks, the topics of which broadly fall within the areas of `inclusion of the excluded’ and/or `education for marginalised’.

These lectures will be attended by the members of IGNOU community, besides invited audience outside the University. It is planned that towards the end of this series, a publication in a book form will be brought out, which contains the text of the various talks. The First two lectures in this series were delivered by Prof. G.N. Devy (renowned literary scholar and cultural activist) and Lt. General Mukesh Sabharwal (Adjutant General, Indian Army). The next talk in the series will be delivered by Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS on `Welfare, Preventive Policing and Helping the Helpless’.

The lecture is scheduled to be held on 25 February 2010 (3 PM) at the Convention Centre of IGNOU Main Campus at Maidan Garhi, New Delhi. All are welcome to attend the lecture.
